Come Together

You may not be ready to step into the world yet. Or plan travel. Or be around groups of people. And that’s just fine. The Delta variant, angry political arguments, the idea that wanting to protect your own health and others is somehow not a universal given, all of these are frightening.
In this past span of 18+ months we’re sort of calling “a year,” virtual teaching and online workshops have flourished. Suddenly, we’re all able to cater to people who can’t leave their houses for reasons physical or emotional or financial or just because. And it turns out there are great ways to teach online, to interact with students and help students interact with each other.
Yet, many of us still miss personal, human connection without a mediating screen. Gentle crosstalk without a Zoom delay. The warm presence of writerly bodies across a table. Hugs.
Fortunately, whether you’re a staying-home-still or a stepping-into-the-world person, on a budget or ready to spend your accumulated vacation funds, there are upcoming events for you! You might enjoy:

I’m leading an online writing workshop for women writers on Monday, August 2nd. Details at http://www.cassiepremosteele.com
Fantastic!
I’m very angry and frightened about those not getting vaccinated. However, I’m excited to come to Allison K. Williams proposal workshop at HippoCamp. And I’m excited to be a first-time presenter. As the Title Doctor, I’ll dispense “10 Prescriptions for a Kicka** Memoir Title.” Hope to see you there! https://hippocamp21.hippocampusmagazine.com/presenters/kristen-paulson-nguyen
Oh right there with you. I respect those with medical considerations or who have experienced medical racism that’s making them leery, but there’s a chunk of people those don’t apply to, and I question their patriotism.
And I am SOOO excited about this workshop!
Thank ]you for the info.
Patriotism? We are “all” able to cater to people who can’t leave their houses? Not all public school students even have access to internet, nor the local infrastructure to acquire it. A person who questions the vaccines doesn’t want to protect his/her health? I’m disappointed in you, and will no longer be following this blog. I joined because I wanted to read some quality non-fiction, not be subjected to a political echo chamber.
More constructive to take your angst and write an essay about it.
I’ll be teaching a 3-week online poetry class in the fall via The Makery. You can watch this link for details soon: https://hindman.org/themakery/
Thanks that sounds wonderful!
Shout out to the Lafayette Writing Studio run by Melissa Fraterrigo. I took classes with her before COVID, and she moved online during COVID lockdown. This fall, she will host workshops led by Sue William Silverman and Laura Maylene Walter. (https://www.lafayettewritersstudio.com/adult-classes)
Ooooo will check that out!
I recently finished a wonderful online writing workshop through Orion magazine. The workshop cost $500 and was six weeks long, limited to 12 students. We met once a week for 3 hours via Zoom. It was intense (lots of writing and reading) and wonderful! It gave me the boost I needed to go back to work on my novel.
Orion’s fall schedule is available here: https://orionmagazine.org/events/category/online-writers-workshop/
I’m teaching some virtual classes: “Moments that Matter: an Intro to Flash Nonfiction” as well as “Make Your Titles Do More of the Heavy Lifting.” Find everything here:
